More American men seeking nip n’ tuck

Once considered a woman’s domain, cosmetic surgery is increasingly attracting American men keen on remaining competitive in the workplace, improving their love life or getting rid of physical hangups.

With procedures for droopy eyelids, bulging love handles and over-sized breasts, more men are readjusting their bodies to enhance their looks and stack the odds in their favor career-wise.

Twice as many are tempted by nip/tuck

The number of women willing to go under the knife to improve their looks has doubled in two years, according to research.

cosmetic.jpg Around a third say they are ‘favourably disposed’ to having a little work done to improve on what nature has given them.

The finding reflects a growing acceptance of cosmetic surgery, fuelled by TV shows such as Nip/Tuck, Extreme Makeover and Ten Years Younger which have ‘desensitised’ attitudes to radical procedures.

An estimated 690,000 procedures will be carried out this year, a 40 per cent increase on last year and 240 per cent higher than 2001. (more…)

Cosmetic surgery draw condemned

Plastic surgeons have criticised a company for running the world’s first cosmetic surgery “superdraw”.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) accused Europa International of “plumbing new depths”.Plastic Surgery

It said the company was using marketing gimmicks to attract customers to surgery abroad.

But John Babbage, co-founder of the Prague-based company, said there was no difference between somebody winning surgery, and paying for it. (more…)
